Delia Swenson of Cocoa Beach. An accomplished oil painter, Delia first picked up a paintbrush in November 2009. Her art is a tribute to perseverance and prayer. Delia, who is a two time cancer survivor with a handicapped son, says, “ I was going through some difficult times. I prayed. God heard me… and He gave me Art. I love where I go when I am painting. I find joy, love and peace when I paint. The feel and texture of the oils now is a part of me, of who I am. My life has been changed by art and is now full of joy and happiness. Life is full of color and my goal is to capture it.. Some days my paintings consume me. Somehow the emotions leap upon the canvas. I hope a little of what I feel when I paint transfers to the viewer.

Artist Statement

Hello, I am a 56 year old woman, that paints for the peace and tranquility. I picked up a paint brush for the first time in November of 2009. I was going through some difficult times. I prayed… He heard me… and He gave me Art. Not sure I can call that self taught, cannot draw a good stick figure. However, I am now a person that puts oil on canvas. I am in love with where I go when I am painting. I find joy, love and peace when I paint. The feel and texture of the oils now is a part of me, of who I am. 'I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart fom Me you can do nothing'. My life has changed since those times of yesterday. I am a 2 time cancer survivor, I have been a widow, I have a handicapped son, and have now an absolutely wonderful life full of joy and happiness. Life has changed since the beginning of my journey with art. Life is now full of color, and some days I just want to capture it. Some days my paintings consume me, somedays the emotions leap upon the canvas. I hope a little of what I feel when I paint transfers to the viewer. A minimum of 50% of all sales go to charity.
