A native of Caracas, Venezuela, Eyca has lived in Merritt Island since 1997. She apprenticed with Greg Wooten and since 2010, she has partnered with Harry Guthrie Phillips at their pottery sculpture studio and gallery in Cocoa Village. He inspired her love of sea life and marine sculpture.
Eyca sketches her ideas then throws them on the wheel, trims, combines, decorates, bisque fires, glazes, and glaze fires at 2400 degrees. Her functional pieces are safe and durable and can be used in the oven, microwave and dishwasher. Self taught, she has learned to incorporate glass in the pottery. Her sculptural pieces, detailed and complex, often feature three dimensional images of creatures floating in a colorful sea.
