BANNED ART AND ABANDONED LANDSCAPES

Artworks by John Cielukowski and Michael Moffett

The Studios of Cocoa Beach is pleased to present “Banned Art and Abandoned Landscapes,” featuring Cocoa Beach’s John Cielukowski, a founding member and former resident artist and board member at the Studios, along with Michael Moffet, friend of the Studios and longtime resident, who will display a selection of works at the Studios from January 3, to February 2, 2025.

Meet the artists at the reception for the exhibit on Friday, January 10th, from 6:00 to 8:30 PM at the Studios of Cocoa Beach. Please join us and meet our artists and patrons for refreshments and nibbles.

John Cielukowski received his BA in Fine Arts from Montclair University in New Jersey. He also studied at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) and The Art Students League in New York City. Besides his involvement with the Studios, he was also a member of the Central Brevard Art Association for 15 years, and one of their Art in Public Places program directors. Presently he is a member of the Brevard Cultural Alliance (BCA).

About his work, John comments, “I am currently working (plein-air and in the studio), on architectural and industrial structures and their relationship to the surrounding environment. I’ve also been exploring the simplification and of these images into borderline abstraction”.

Michael Moffett is an American shock artist and realistic sculptor raised in New York City and Sarasota, Florida. In 1969, Moffett served as a Marine Corps radio operator along the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Vietnam. Those combat experiences continue to tinge much of his work. His sculpture and his paintings feature strong social commentary, including satirical advertising slogans.

Michael attended the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota and Palomar College in California, majoring in Fine Arts. Around 1979, Moffett started casting in polyester resins, epoxies, and silicone rubber. From 2018 to 2022, he taught sculpture at the Maitland Art Center, Maitland, Florida.

Meet John and Michael at the reception of their exhibit held on Friday, January 10, from 6:00 to 8:30. Hope to see you there!

The Studios has approximately twenty-nine artists and includes paintings, fused glass art, ceramics, woodworks, jewelry, palm art, surf art, cards, and reproductions. Throughout the year, the Studios offers classes in various media including acrylic and watercolor painting, photography, stained glass and classes for children.
